Project House: Week 2.

We have plaster. Hallelujah 🎉

This week we finally started feeling like we are putting the house back together appose to tearing it apart.

Archie’s bedroom ceiling has now been boarded and plastered. And our bedroom has had the ceiling and walls plastered too. We have closed up the doorway leading from our bedroom to the bathroom as there was some kind of Jack & Jill thing going on there and just left the door from the hallway open.

The loft hatch has been cut out bigger now as it was super small ready for the hall way to be plastered next week.

Skirting boards and door frames have all been undercoated with paint, top coated and glossed in both the bedrooms.

The banister has been rubbed down to wood ready for painting, the horrible dark brown paint is now gone and it is surprising how much of a difference it makes already. I can’t wait to see how it brightens the place once it’s painted white. Under he stairs has also now been fixed as the stairs needed reinforcing.

One of the biggest things that has been done this week is the boiler got installed and the pipework laid ready to connect the radiators for our central heating. I’m so excited for their to be heating in our house. I don’t know how the poor old lady who owned the house before us coped with one gas fire.

Painting has started to take place in Archie’s room. The ceilings have been painted and the inside of his wardrobe that was the old airing cupboard. Over the weekend callum will line the walls with lining paper so it is ready to paint then that room is done bar the carpet.

It doesn’t feel like a lot has been done this week but the bigger jobs have now been completed so next week we can start with the painting once the plaster is dry.

When we started this process I gave us a time line of 4 weeks and this week it is beginning to feel like we’re not going to meet that target. I’m just going to work my bum off to get in for Archie’s birthday and hopefully now the heating is in, once the radiators are connected things might dry a little bit faster.

Thanks for following our journey so far. I can’t wait to see how much we have accomplished by the end of next week.

Excuse the bit hanging down, Dad slipped out the loft and took that with him. It has since been fixed.
I think I got more on me that I did on the ceiling

Love Tilly & Archie xx

  1. Great progress so far. Don’t know yourself if you don’t get it done in time. I know you really want it done for Archie’s second birthday, but I’m sure at the end of it, you’ll prefer a perfect house that takes six weeks instead of a good one that took four. Plaster is a nightmare to dry out, I feel your pain. I’ve got to have a little bit done in the kitchen and living room and my dad won’t paint it for eight weeks after lol x
