It’s official, we’ve bought a house. We’ve exchanged, completed and I’ve got the keys in my hand. On our 3 year anniversary yesterday, we are officially home owners.  I cant even begin to tell you how long I have waited to be able to write this blog post. I don’t even know where to begin.

When I was around 20 weeks pregnant, Callum moved into my parents house with me so we could be together as a family when the baby arrived. This was always only going to be a temporary thing and we planned to only stay for 6 months. We thought this would give us enough time to save up for a deposit and look for a flat to buy.

As the months went past our savings account grew but there was just nothing suitable to purchase. Everything was well out of our price range or wasn’t big enough for our needs. Living in Bournemouth is amazing, its 5 minutes from the beach and I’ve grown up here my whole life, but house prices are stupidly high. You are looking at around a minimum of  £200,000 for a small 2 bed flat with little or no garden.

Since then we have been searching everywhere and patiently waiting for house to come on the market or to be built. Every evening I would search Zoopla, Rightmove, private estate agents and builders sites just to see if there is anything available for us. We have viewed a ton of properties and a couple we have put in offers for but they have fallen through. Until we found our home.

We found a flat about 6 months ago and started the process of purchasing it. Unfortunately just before we were about to complete we had to pull out as the lease came through and there were too many restrictions on there. Since then we have viewed a handful of places and put some offers in on 2 properties. The first property was a bungalow but unfortunately we couldn’t afford asking price and someone offered so we didn’t get an offer accepted. Then after the bungalow we viewed a 2 bed end of terrace house with a massive garden, it needed work but we fell in love. So we put in an offer and it got accepted straight away.

We have since been patiently waiting for all the paper work to go through, the mortgage to get accepted, searches done by the solicitors and valuations. This has felt like an absolute lifetime. When in reality it has only been 3 months.

I’m so happy to say that we are now the proud owners of our first family home. At times it has felt like this was never going to happen, being let down by estate agents, not being able to borrow as much money as we wanted and by there being absolutely nothing suitable on the market. But it has definitely been worth the wait. We’ve got a little bit of work to do before we can move in, mainly cosmetic things but were hoping it’ll only take a couple of weeks or so to get everything up together then save for the harder most costly things to be done next summer.

I’m going to update my blog with pictures of the house when we first bought it then after weve done it up to how we want it.

I cant wait to take you all on this journey with us. Our own little family home. Let this exciting adventure begin.

Love Tilly and Archie xx

  1. Again, so happy for you all. I remember the feeling well and sometimes I’m still in awe that we have our own house and have built so much as a family. Good luck. Can’t wait to see before and after pictures. I need your address!!
